I cancelled my subscriptions for inter-cultural snacks and online workout classes. I limited myself to eating out once a month, did spending freezes about once every two months, delayed buying things to make sure I wanted them, worked over 200 hrs of overtime and hit my savings goal. I saved enough to move to Japan this year and got the job I applied for in Japan. :]
Hey there! Just read your post on the marshmallow test and wow, it really hit home. I love how you broke down the concept of delayed gratification and its impact on our future selves. It’s like a wake-up call that reminds us to think beyond just instant rewards, especially in our fast-paced world today.
The part where you linked self-control to better life outcomes really resonated with me. It’s so relatable to our lives in Singapore, where everything is all about ‘now’—instant noodles, instant coffee, you name it! Your tips on hacking our lives for better self-discipline are super practical and definitely something I’ll try to incorporate.
So here’s a question for everyone: What’s one thing you think you’ve put off for immediate satisfaction, and how do you plan to tackle it this week?
I’m curious about this because it can reveal so much about our habits and priorities. Plus, sharing our experiences could help us all motivate each other to embrace that delayed gratification mindset!
